National Animal Identification System (NAIS)

-- NAIS...What better example of a fascist/socialist government program. US Dept of Agriculture (USDA) want you to register your property with the government if you own EVEN ONE of the animals covered As currently written, cattle and bison, cervids (e.g., deer and elk); goats; horses are included. This is known as Premise ID and it IS already mandatory in Wisconsin and Indiana.

The second phase of NAIS will require ID on each individual animal. Of course, there is an exception for those animal factories which raise hundreds or thousands of a species of animal as a group. And what will that method of ID be? And how much will it cost? Well, that is still under discussion by the Species Working Groups...members of which mostly belong to the corporations/groups that hope to profit from NAIS.

The third phase mandates we must report movement of our animals....be it taking the animal to a vet, a show, a trail ride, if we process the animal for supper, if the animal dies...all within 24 hours. Seperate report for each animal (unless you get the corporate discount...I mean, are able to use the group ID).

How will it be reported? How much will these reports cost? Who knows. No study has been done/reported.

-- An excellent article by Henry Lamb (WorldNet Daily January 12, 2008)

-- Picture this.... I have 100 chickens being raised in a pasture. I go out in the morning and see a buch of features that makes it look as if one has been eaten by Mr Fox. I now have to catch every chicken and read every tag/chip to see which one is missing. There goes any  productive work I had planned. OK, I get the missing number and report it. Next day, I count chickens and see 100. Dang it, catch and read tags/chips yet again (there goes another day of productive work). Well, I am happy the chicken came back to life or came back from across the road where she was hiding in the woods. Not eaten, just missing a few feathers. But, now I have to file (and pay for) yet another report.

Even if you don't own animals, how much are you willing to pay for my chickens? I can guarantee the price will have to go up. But, if you are happy with the "chicken" ( I can't help but think of the story told to me by a lady who had to cut off the extra feet growing out of the wings as she processed them. It was not a rare occurrance.) raised in factories, or cows standing piles of their excretement, etc then this is probably not a web page you'll like.

For those who still like to think that you have the RIGHT to raise animals rather than the PRIVLEDGE of raising animals given to you by the government, I encourage you to research this and be active in letting your representatives know. There are many sites/groups (Yahoo Groups search on NAIS) that are fighting NAIS. Please, don't think that NAIS could never happen. It will, unless we, the citizens who the government is supposed to serve, let our representatives know our position....and vote only for those who serve our interests.

One very good site for the fight against NAIS is NoNAIS.Org    Another site you can try is Farm & Ranch Freedom.
